Meet your coach

I am Bob Easton, transformation coach and Founder of Easton Coaching.

I help leaders and teams discover what brings them alive so they can feel good and function well in all areas of career and life.

I’m passionate about making a difference in the lives of my coaching clients because I believe that the world would be a better place with more people operating at the intersection of their purpose, values, passions, and strengths.

Formal qualifications

I am an International Coach Federation (ICF) certified coach and a graduate of The Hudson Institute of Coaching, one of the world’s premier coaching schools.

In addition, I draw on several years of doctoral studies in individual and organisational flourishing (including studying under world-renowned Professors David Cooperrider, the founder of Appreciative Inquiry, and Richard Boyatzis, coaching supremo), an MBA, and two post grad Psychology degrees, including the Master of Applied Psychology Program (MAPP) at UPENN with Professor Martin Seligman, the founder of Positive Psychology.

My professional experience

I bring to my coaching work 45+ years of practical experience in leadership roles at small, large, and complex organizations across many industries and contexts, including business, military, public, and private.

My life has been about increasing people’s performance, compassion, use of strengths, resilience, and pursuit of best self. Specifically:

  • I have spent thousands of hours coaching leaders and teams across diverse lines of business from C-suite to line executives.

  • While at Accenture I initiated, sponsored, and contributed to, a yearlong Transformational Coaching program for selected executive Senior Managers run in conjunction with the Positivity Institute. The program ran under my leadership for 4 years and continues to this day post my retirement from Accenture. The program focused on individual flourishing as well as the collective development of our next generation of leadership.  It consisted of one-on-one coaching, psychometric assessments, self and 360 feedback, knowledge sessions, and cohort connect sessions.

  • I designed and implemented a trust-based Ways of Working program for leadership teams at two large global companies and have personally trained over 2000 Client and Accenture people and executive teams. The program focuses on positive interventions to enable teams and partnerships to flourish (feel good, function well and collaborate for the benefit of the whole).

  • In my travels I have worked or provided services/advice to the following companies: Accenture, AMP, ASX, Bristol Myers Squibb, Deutsch Bank, Johnson and Johnson, Lion Nathan, Telstra, Woolworths Group, Qantas, Australian Department of Defence, NZ Department of Defence, ANAO, Exxon Mobile, Caltex, Hoover, Southcorp Wines, General Foods, Campbells Arnott’s, TNT Logistics, David Jones, Energy Australia, Ausgrid, and Price Waterhouse, PESA, Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA), amongst others.

Bob is a natural coach with his signature strengths of kindness, love, bravery, humour, and leadership.

“I’m so excited to see Bob launch his own coaching business. I had the incredible opportunity of working with Bob on the Accenture ANZ “Elevate” Leadership Development and Coaching Program for 4 years.

Bob was integral in the development of this program drawing on his academic knowledge (he holds a Master’s in Applied Positive Psychology) and extensive experience as a senior leader.

Bob is a natural coach with his signature strengths of kindness, love, bravery, humour, and leadership shining brightly. I’m also delighted to see Bob’s love of learning in full flight with further investment in advanced education in coaching and coaching psychology.”

My life experience

I have led and followed.

I have been part of high-functioning teams and problematic relationships.

I have celebrated successes and matured through failure.

I have experienced major career transitions (from a 20-year military career to a successful 28-year business consulting career, and most recently from 25 years at Accenture to retirement from my role of Chairman and CEO of the Australia and New Zealand business).

Most importantly, I have learned and grown each step of the way.

Working with Bob was a transformational experience.

Headshot of Jonathan Ley

“Working with Bob was a transformational experience, redefining what is possible for me as an individual and the teams I lead. Specifically, Bob helped me understand why my frustrations sometimes get the better of me. In my relationships with clients, Bob helped me understand the importance of engaging stakeholders and proactively escalating problems.

The uniqueness of working with Bob is that whatever the scenario or problem, he has an encyclopaedic collection of helpful quotes, methodologies, and books. He recommended books and journals that continue to occupy my bookshelves after our work together, and that I myself have recommended further.

He is without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable and passionate leaders I have worked with.”

My coaching is based on science and experience and focused on you

I strive to build trust and respect between you (the client) and me (the coach) quickly. I commit to bringing my deep understanding of business at the executive level and life’s challenges at the personal level.

When coaching I use evidence-based approaches, a deep understanding of business at the executive level and life’s challenges at the personal level, an appreciative mindset, wisdom, and compassion, to help you lean into and explore these transitions, doubts, fears, and confusion. To help you uncover hidden opportunities in your challenges and dreams to enhance your life experience, work performance, and wellbeing.

Powered by shared values, we will work together in a safe, non-judgemental, and confidential environment, to unleash potential, unlock strengths, and ignite passion, purpose, and performance for impact — quite simply to flourish professionally and in life.

“The real act of discovery consists not in finding new lands but seeing with new eyes.”

Bob consistently takes an active interest in helping others overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.

“Having worked with Bob during the 10+ years he was the client account executive for Bristol Myers Squibb, I most appreciated his capacity to offer empathy and build trust. In every situation, Bob combines his active listening skills with his extensive experience, and reading and research in human psychology and social behaviour to deliver pragmatic, candid, and actionable advice.

Even when events in his own life could have easily absorbed all his energy and attention, Bob consistently took an active interest in helping others, including me, overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.”

Why I coach

I launched Easton Coaching as an encore to my military and corporate careers so that I could make a difference in the lives of those I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to coach.

Coaching and guiding people has been a lifelong passion of mine and a key aspect of my life at work and in the community. I am deeply passionate about two things:

  1. Helping individuals and teams, particularly those facing major transitions, to find pathways to feeling good and functioning well, to achieve their full potential and at the same time be happy; and

  2. Creating truly human environments where inclusion, compassion, trust, competence, confidence, strengths, innovation, and responsible/sustainable business can flourish.

Our lives are intersected by many major and mini transitions — changing careers, ending relationships, grief, illness, unexpected feedback, returning to the workforce — these moments present great challenges. They may even leave us languishing or evoke a range of emotions and unhelpful mind scripts: self-doubt, imposter syndrome, fear, confusion, and feelings of being stuck. At the same time, transitions provide an opportunity to reflect and grow.

Bob has not only a wealth of expertise but also a seemingly endless supply of both empathy and kindness.

Headshot of Barbara Brooks Kimmel

“Many believe that the fastest route to trust is by observing and evaluating an individual’s character, competence, and consistency. Bob Easton is one of those rare examples of someone who exhibits all three right from the first meeting and never wavers.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Bob for over ten years as both a colleague and a friend. He was kind enough to write the conclusion to our book Trust Inc: Strategies for Building Your Company’s Most Valuable Asset and subsequently received our Lifetime Achievement Award as a Top Thought Leader in Trust.

If I made a short list of people who I would want coaching me, Bob would be up at the top. He has not only a wealth of expertise but also a seemingly endless supply of both empathy and kindness. I know these feelings are shared by many others who have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know him. All the best.”

Bob creates working relationships based on trust, candour, and integrity.

Headshot of Paul Cramer

“Bob is one of the wisest business people I’ve ever met. He understands how to successfully interact with clients because — in both his mind and his heart — he insists that all efforts be made to meet the client’s interests completely. He creates working relationships based on trust, candour, and integrity so that in times of need the relationship is strong enough to create solutions that would otherwise be impossible.

He’s an extraordinary coach and he is a powerful conveyor of tools and techniques as a mentor. I always learned something when I worked with Bob, and he was always willing to teach. I would hire Bob in a heartbeat as a coach!”

“Be patient … and try to love the questions themselves.

Live the questions now.

Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”

Bob’s wisdom and experience inspired a great deal of self-reflection and growth.

Headshot for Maree Mattner

“Bob is a considered and considerate leader, who has an innate passion for helping people realise the best versions of themselves both professionally and personally.

I found that Bob had a strong ability to spot and nurture potential, which made his coaching impactful, meaningful, and relevant. Bob clearly has a unique knack for understanding people. He quickly gets a grasp on what makes people tick and what is the hole they are trying to fill.

Bob’s wisdom and experience inspired a great deal of self-reflection and growth, for which I remain grateful. I can recall some of Bob’s key messages all of these years later. What really resonated was his reinforcement that you work best when you are working at the intersection of your strengths and passions. I continually assess to make sure that this is where I am and where I am heading.”

Four people clinking glasses of red wine

On a personal note

I have 4 adult children and live with my wife Marie (circa 4 decades) and son Benjamin in Sydney, Australia.

I love sport, hiking, Pilates, reading, and enjoying other people’s company — generally over a glass of wine.

“One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said ‘My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

One is Negativity. It’s anger, sadness, stress, contempt, disgust, fear, embarrassment, guilt, shame, and hate. The other is Positivity. It’s joy, gratitude, serenity, interest, hope, pride, amusement, inspiration, awe, and above all, love.’

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’

The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’”
